OUR MISSION

Autographs for Autism will share the journey of our family’s experience and provide assistance to those affected with ASD and their families, by offering resources to local schools and programs that provide support, education and teach independent life skills to those impacted by autism and other disabilities.

At Autographs for Autism, we believe that everyone deserves a chance to succeed in life. That's why we work tirelessly to raise awareness about Autism and help families affected by this condition. Our goal is to provide support and resources to those in need, and to raise funds to help.

ABOUT

ABOUT AUTISM

What is Autism

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or “autism” as it is commonly referred to, is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave. Autism varies greatly from person to person, which means no two children with autism are alike or have the same needs.

Although autism can be diagnosed at any age, it is described as a “developmental disorder” because symptoms generally appear in early childhood.

How Prevalent is Autism

Autism is the fastest growing disorder, steadily increasing over the last 20 years, currently with no cure.

In 2021, the Centers for Disease Control reported that autism affects an estimated 1 in 44 children in the United States today; approximately 1 in 27 boys identified with autism, and 1 in 116 girls identified with autism. This means that boys are 4 times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls. People of all races, ethnicities, genders, and economic backgrounds can be diagnosed with autism.

Signs of autism usually appear by age 2 or 3, but some associated developmental delays can appear even earlier. Early intervention affords the best opportunities to support healthy development and deliver lifelong benefits! Learn the Signs!

What are the Signs of Autism

It is important to remember that not all children with autism show all the signs, and many children without autism show a few. This is why speaking to a trusted medical professional about an evaluation is crucial. If your child exhibits the following symptoms, please speak to your pediatrician or family doctor immediately.

What Causes Autism

Doctors don’t yet know the primary causes of autism, but studies show that a person’s genes coupled with environmental aspects, can affect development in ways that lead to ASD. Some factors include changes in certain genes that increase the risk that a child will develop autism.
